How Trees Secretly Talk to Each Other in the Forest | Decoder

What do trees talk about? In the Douglas fir forests of Canada, see how trees “talk” to each other by forming underground symbiotic relationships—called mycorrhizae—with fungi to relay stress signals and share resources with one another.

How sad is it now, when you chop down a sapling, that you know the big hub tree probably gets confused for a bit – still feeding that node. Until it realizes that it’s dead. I bet the hub tree stops feeding that node. Stops sending nutrients. Awe how sad… 🙁

Humans should not exist. Only nature and wild animals should inherit the earth.

So, if a tree falls down in the forest, does that mean it’s screaming out in agony?

  10. Presque vu on December 13, 2020 at 10:17 pm

Cut to the chase. There is no need for the silliness at the start. Leave comedy to professional comedians and just get to the point.

May be its time that we understand that religions and religious books do contain some exclusive and mind blowing information which science is yet to unearth. And may be everything is not just mythology and the lessons taught of love and respect are the ultimate goals of acquiring knowledge whether through science or religion.

Under every footstep you take you tread on hundreds of miles of mycelium with each footfall. This massive network also communicates using chemicals and electrical signals to the point that to some level these plant and fungal systems are aware of the goings on around them. Can this be called a consciousness?

  19. Luis Antonio Laracuente on December 13, 2020 at 10:27 pm

I think the main protagonist here is the mycelium and not the trees.

All those burning trees right now must be screaming their unburned neighbors into insanity. Please, help us spread the much needed science AND love among each other to try and minimize the damage our species as a whole has inflicted on this glorious organism we call the Earth.

  22. N Wilt on December 13, 2020 at 10:29 pm

Are the trees actually talking or the mycelium?

  23. Louise Gogel on December 13, 2020 at 10:31 pm

🌲 Let us be scientifically open minded and not make conclusive statements about whether or not trees and people can communicate.

🌳 Let us leave that possibility open and ways will be found on how it works between the few people and trees who do communicate with each other.

🌴 We are in danger of self limiting arrogance when we assume we know it all and declare it to be so. Thus a scientist who is true and open minded is humble and always questioning, exploring, allowing paradigm shifts to open their further understanding of the world.

The fact that majority of movies and shows starts off the bringing in the forest is blowing my mind I love movies shows and conspiracy theories and subliminal messages I see that there’s a hidden message about tree’s we don’t know about. Maybe it could be symbolic pointing to the tree of life

What value is the warning signal? Perhaps trees used to be able to run away and this a left over evolutionary signal still hanging around. Or perhaps we are about to experience an evolutionary leap forward.
