How to Make a Fishing Rod Rack for Only $25

How to Make a Fishing Rod Rack for Only $25

Alright ladies and gentlemen, here is a video that should appeal to you crafty anglers. In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a rod/storage rack for your garage and keep your budget under $25.00 that is if you have all the necessary tools already. The tools and supplies that you need for this project include:

1×4 inch pine boards (42 inches)
Jig saw
Drill with two inch cup bit
Sand paper and hand sander preferably
Clear coat or stain for the finish
C-Clamp
Tape Measure

In the first part of the video, I show you how to lay out the boards to start marking the holes to be cut. Stacking the boards on top of one another will help insure good placement and minimize mistakes. Starting three inches from the edge, you will start your first hole using the two inch cup bit. After this hole is drilled you will continue to drill a hole every four inches. You should end with a total of 10 holes. Utilize your sand paper to smoothen the rough edges. For the second board you must cut grooves, so that the rods can easily be removed from the rack. I utilize a simple level and tape measure to mark one inch groves that will later be cut with the jig saw. After sanding and a little clear coat your rack is ready to be hung with simple “L” brackets that can be purchased in the hardware isle of Home Depot. Made one similar a couple of years back. Tip – keep the hole cut outs they make great wheels for wooden toys for the grandkids.

  16. iamthemiracle81 on July 21, 2021 at 9:02 pm

I would of marked 2 in on both ends and snapped a chalk line and then ran the tape the length of the boards and marked every 4 in. 4, 8, 12, etc. Little easier than sticking the tape in the center of the hole haha. Good shit though nonetheless. Will be doing this tomorrow.

    Cheers brother and tight lines!

nothing is 100% perfect, that’s the fun part of diy projects. they have a personal touch to them
nice work! and awesome fun video
recommend using pencil for markings, ask inks will ‘soak’ into the timber and usually require more sanding effort

    Great work, Joshua!

  27. Lance on July 21, 2021 at 9:15 pm

did you just screw the brackets into the sheet rock on the ceiling or did you screw them into studs?

  28. drivethrufresno on July 21, 2021 at 9:16 pm

Thanks buddy! Just wrapped up my rod holder today. Wife approved! Much appreciated.

  29. Raff on July 21, 2021 at 9:16 pm

Great job. I got one question. When marking out the angle where the rod tip goes. Why the first 5 angles go one way and the remaining 5 go another way?

I believe that’s called a hole saw…not a cut bit unless that’s what y’all call them there lol. Nice build I think I might just do that

  44. Easter Stedman on July 21, 2021 at 9:38 pm

I am really sure you can build it yourself mates. I made it 2 weeks ago thanks to woodprix website.

  45. Andrew Childers on July 21, 2021 at 9:39 pm

This guy doesn’t use a hole saw a lot. Lol

  46. Michael Reifel on July 21, 2021 at 9:40 pm

never measure hole to hole, it will definitely grow on you. On another note the center of a 1×4 (which is 3 1/2") is not 2", it is 1 3/4".
