2016 Honda TRX250X Test

Honda’s TRX250X returns to their lineup for 2016. As an entry-level, sport/recreation ATV, the TRX250X is a go-to machine for first time sport ATV enthusiasts looking for a light-weight, and nimble, recreational trail quad. Recommended for riders age 16 and up, the 250X is an attractive choice for riders who have long-since physically and mentally outgrown their 90cc ATV. It’s also one of the few new machines a younger rider could afford, save up for, and purchase.
The 250X has been proving its superb durability since it was released in 2001 as the 250EX. While it hasn’t changed much over the past 15 years, what makes a great entry- level machine hasn’t changed much either, and chances are if you’re considering buying a 250X, it’s likely new to you. That’s why the 2016 Honda TRX250X was a machine we were determined to put to the test.

At the end of the day, a great entry-level sport ATV needs to feel quick, handle light and predictably, be extremely durable, and come at a price most enthusiasts can afford. The 2016 Honda TRX250X offers all of that.
The TRX250X is a great, first sport quad for inexperienced off-road enthusiasts. It’s a good option for a teen looking to gain experience before moving up in a machine. Most wives or girlfriends could enjoy it nearly forever. What’s best is that the 250X is one of those ATVs that’s always nice to have around as nearly anyone can have a great time riding it, and that’s really what Honda’s TRX250X is all about.

When you said the colors it came in instead of black and white did you mean black and red?

I plan on installing a shock conversion kit on my 250x this summer so I can run full length 400ex or 450r style shocks, and I was wondering which front shocks you would recommend installing. I trail ride hard and often and have found that the shocks cannot handle what I put them through. I weigh 140 (if that matters at all) and am looking for shocks without external reservoirs as my budget is relatively small.

ATVonDemand Have any suggestions for a 250cc race atv for me? I’m 11, 5’5, 140lbs. I don’t have any ideas other than the 2013 Honda 250ex, and the 250cc vitacci pentora. Thanks bro, hopefully you can give me some ideas. I’d greatly appreciate it.

Why doesn’t my 2016 250x go in neutral? I cant get the green light to come on that’s why it doesn’t start. The reverse light (red) turns on when in reverse but the neutral doesn’t. The lights turn on just fine it has a brand new battery I checked all the fuses but still no luck. I tried rocking it back and forth numerous times and still can’t find it. The quad rolls back and fourth like if it’s on neutral but no green light!

I am 18 and 5’3 would this be a starter atv for me?

  23. RideWithWill on November 23, 2020 at 9:30 pm

would this be a good starter ATV for my wife? she is only 5ft so she finds bigger ATVs like polaris 570 and even the 450 too intimidating for the size height wise

  24. Max_i.33 on November 23, 2020 at 9:33 pm

I’m a 16 year old looking for a fast bike but nothing to kill myself on but I’m rlly experienced I’m 6’3 223 any suggestions

  25. Cory Hill on November 23, 2020 at 9:34 pm

I Guarantee I could destroy this quad on a 1987 250xr even being 250lbs. This is a kids toy. 87 250cc is the equivalent of a 350cc easy

  26. It's mike on November 23, 2020 at 9:34 pm

Bro I am literally 12 and have this quad

  27. Gavin Remer on November 23, 2020 at 9:35 pm

The 250EX was actually introduced in 1987.

  28. Joe lo3 on November 23, 2020 at 9:36 pm

Kinda stinks that this is all that is really left in this segment. Back in the day you had alot more choices, blaster, 300ex,mojave, warrior etc. The blaster was the best In my opinion in this segment back then!!

  29. Ryan Harkins on November 23, 2020 at 9:36 pm

I’m looking to get one of these but i ride in a lot of sand so would this be ok or should i go for a 400EX?

  30. NWProductions on November 23, 2020 at 9:36 pm

I’m 6”3 and 165lbs this a decent ATV for me? I have experience, but haven’t rode in years and just wanted something at a good price to drive around in.

  31. Jarno C1 on November 23, 2020 at 9:37 pm

I have the honda 250x for like 6 years and i never changed something, it rides like new but do i have to change the air filter or the oil or something?

  32. Ezra Thornton on November 23, 2020 at 9:38 pm

Does the trx come from the factory with the differential locked? Or is it opened?

  33. Michigan Quad Trails & Tales on November 23, 2020 at 9:40 pm

I bought the Wife the new 2019 250X,I have a 1991 250X I bought new in 1991,the new machine is not as fast as the old one,but it does handle nice for the Wife.
In the next few months I’ll probably be getting another one for myself, and using the ’91 less, why?getting old (55) and getting tired of kicking starting.I will add some adjustable shocks, and a pipe to mine to make it more fun.

  38. moserkm on November 23, 2020 at 9:47 pm

Great video! I just found one of these for sale and I’m researching it for my son. My son is currently on a Polaris Outlaw 90 and this would be quite the upgrade for him. The one I’m looking at is a 2007. I concerned though, that this might be too big of a jump for him as it’s marketed for 16+. He just turned 12 and has about two years experience on ATVs. We primarily do trail riding and he’s not much of a daredevil….yet at least. Here’s my question…In part of this video you mentioned the seat is a bit hard and may not be great for long rides. Can you elaborate on this a bit for me? I’d also like to hear any thoughts on a 12 year old riding this. Thanks!
