Thanks for sharing the tutorial. Did some cast netting in Hawaii before. Might try for anchovies. Can you use that same net for herring? 🐟💯🤙

Great job netting anchovies 👍. I heard anchovies are harder to keep as bait compared to herrings unless you brine them and airtight seal them, is that how you prepare them for future baits. Lol, you got all the baits you’ll need for the next 2 years now 😂😀

Thanks for sharing, this is a lot of fun! I tried to find more videos about cast net fishing in the bay area. However, most of them are about herring fishing. Do you get a lot of fish outside the herring season using the cast net?

Awesome video. Are the anchovies still around? I live about 3 hrs away but would like to take my little brother out there one day. He’s disabled so we will just fishing with a pole with subuki rig. We go to santa Cruz every other month but never can catch a school of dishes there lol

I am pretty sure that cast net you are using is illegal in California. I would double check the regulations.

I got my Cast Net in the mail the other day. Took it out yesterday on the Santa Cruz Pier but was told that it was illegal by some random dude. He said it had to be no more than 36” to be legal. I have looked it up but don’t quite understand the boundaries. He said you can get a $1600 fine for any larger than 36”. Mine is 5ft I believe.
